Help Your Teens Have Optimal Oral Health
At Rivercrest Family Dental, we care about the health of our patients of all ages. We often stress the importance of caring for your oral health. Our adult patients are responsible for their own oral health, and children rely on an adult to help them care for their teeth. What about our teenage patients? While it is important for adults to ensure that our teenage patients are visiting our office for routine hygiene examinations and cleanings, adolescence is a time when teens become responsible for caring for their oral health on a daily basis. We want to help our teenage patients understand the harm they can cause to their teeth when they do not care for them properly.
Help Teens Create Good Habits
Whether you have a teenager in your home or not, you probably have someone with a teenager in their life and can relate to the struggles they share with you. Even though teens may not seem to care what you have to say, we still encourage you to share the importance of cleaning and caring for their teeth. This is especially important if your teen is wearing any form of orthodontic hardware. Not cleaning teeth properly and making poor choices can be harmful for all teens, whether they are receiving orthodontic treatment or not. We want to share some helpful tips that you can pass on to your teen. Many of these helpful tips also apply to others in your household:
- Limit soft drinks and sports drinks and drink water instead
- Choose healthy snack options and discourage fast food and junk food
- Brush and floss after meals, especially when wearing braces
- Be aware of the dangers of sharing toothbrushes
- Wear a mouthguard when playing any sport
If you, your teen, or another loved one has not visited our New Braunfels, TX office recently for a hygiene examination, we encourage you to call today to schedule an appointment. Be sure to notify our office of any concerns you might have. We look forward to seeing you and your family soon!
